To Our Friends and Dealers:
As all our advertising announced, 2018 show was the Austin Doll Collectors’ Society’s 43rd Annual Doll Show. Some of you have been with us for a long time, although none for 43 years! In fact, Sharon Weintraub and I are the only club members who were around for the first show, a rather makeshift affair at the old Holiday Inn at IH 35 and Hwy 183. We have moved to new venues, dealers have come and gone, and club members have loved or hated the process of putting on a doll show.
This show is both our 43rd and our last. The continually increasing costs and the aging of many of our club members have combined to cause us to decide after our 2017 show that 2018 would be our last show. Some of you have heard rumors, and this makes it official.
None of us are giving up dolls – playing dolls keeps us young. We will continue as an active club, and will certainly find ways to enjoy shows put on by others. We hope that someone else will pick up the Austin fall show. Good luck with avoiding UT football games and ACL Fest! Those of us who have sales booths
here will undoubtedly expect to carry on, but without the total show responsibility.
This year was a good show – we cut off booth sales in time to leave wide aisles, put out lots of advertising, and gathered donations for a fabulous door prize (sorry, dealers and club members not eligible to win), so that we hope everyone will go home feeling good about the 43rd and final ADCS Show.
We thank you for your support over the years, and hope everyone will keep on loving dolls and sharing the fun of getting together!
Elaine Jackson and all of the Austin Doll Collectors’ Society
